As described in the article “effective complexity peaks where there is a mix of order and disorder.” Thus, an artwork that I like that exemplifies this concept is “Xylem and Hyphae” by Nervous System (2010). This is a work of generative art that is modeled off of leaf venation patterns. This work sits close to the middle of the order-randomness spectrum, though I’d say it sits closer to “total order.”

The Problem of Authenticity with generative art is definitely a problem that often comes to mind. I am conflicted whether artistic express is rooted in the algorithms an artist creates to generate a work of art, and if every individual iteration of a piece is considered unique. I don’t think that a computer is artistically expressing itself when it runs a program, though I do think that the artwork is expressive of the artist.
