Honestly, I haven’t had much exposure to interactive and/or computational art before this class. One of the few projects I have seen and really admired is pix2pix. This is a project that was created by Phillip Isola, Jun-Yan Zhu, Tinghui Zhou, and Alexei A. Efros that takes a line drawing you can make with your computer mouse and then creates something from it. They borrow heavily from another project’s code, but none of it was based on commercial software.

When I first saw this project, I really really admired it because at the time I hadn’t realized that this was something possible with technology or that it was something that machine learning was being used for. There are many works that this could have been inspired; by now I’ve seen many different programs that combine the style of one image with another like this one. In the future, projects like this would probably enable anyone to produce a fairly realistic imagined image and eliminate the need to painstakingly drawing and rendering realistic images.
