QUESTION 1A:

I think this Sugihara’s cylinder sketch demonstrates effective complexity; the rules of rotation are simple; the implementation requires complex mathematical reasoning for the perspective, but the creator of the visualization above did a really excellent job of emulating it in Scratch – linked here -https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/115733269/.

QUESTION 1B:

I think “The Problem of Uniqueness” is a really interesting one; we briefly studied Walter Benjamin’s writing last semester in my seminar, but this article adds another possibility. It argues that generative art provides an endless supply of “original and unique” artifacts, which I agree with. I believe that despite being susceptible to being copied, the fact that it originated from the same procedure as its sibling copies make the generative works become more meaningful because each permutation is randomly original and randomly unique.
