Looking Outwards 02

“Gasbook 10: Movement” by Lia (2001) is an interactive generative application with various different algorithms used to create different designs, and they are all compiled together in this video. This video personally fascinates me because of the way it is able to mimic natural forms. It reminds me of natural phenomena such as the way that waves oscillate on the surface of the ocean and the way that plants grow.
It seems to me that the algorithms this artist uses function by forming different patterns depending on the speed at which the mouse is moved and the direction in which it is travelling. Some of the earlier designs involving circles show that the perspective at which the circle is viewed also changes depending on the location of the mouse.
I would definitely say that the algorithms show Lia’s sensibilities for pattern, design, and imitation of nature.
