Manovich’s Principles Artwork example

This was my favorite example of automation and variability. Philip Worthington’s Shadow Monsters responds to the shadows of two people and accordingly responds to the changing silhouettes by making new monsters from them. The program will automatically adjust to new shadows by adding eyes, teeth, and other extremities. This is also an example of variability as new teeth and eyes are created/corrected to correspond to new shapes and formations made by shadows within the projections.
